advisers all have a Careers Guidance qualification at level 6 (this is the recommended

standard as recognised by the Career Development Institute). Our advisers also have

experience working in the career guidance sector.

Rosie’s Story:  “I never had any careers advice when I was at school and just drifted into doing A’ levels and progressed on to university to study French and Economics, my favourite subjects. When I graduated I still had no idea what to do – I applied for a few jobs but was unsuccessful. My Dad suggested doing a PGCE, since I had always enjoyed being in education. I qualified as a secondary school teacher in 1992.  After 3 years teaching, I realised this wasn’t for me and decided to make a change. I gained a place on the JET programme, a government run initiative teaching English in Japan. This was a fabulous experience, living in a small town just outside Hiroshima and sampling a completely different culture, culminating in a 3 month trip around South-East Asia. On my return, I finally went to see a Careers Adviser who helped me to focus on what I really wanted out of life and what I had to offer. After a few sessions and some research I decided to train to be a Careers Adviser, since I enjoyed working in education but doing 1:1s and small group sessions rather than whole class teaching. I also had a genuine interest in the economy and job market. I qualified in 1999 and got a job straight away! I’ve loved my career for the past 23 years and hope to continue for many more. I hope I can help you find what you are really looking for and not make as many mistakes as I did!” Rosie Morris
